Convenient Organic Baby Food

by Shannon on August 22, 2011

When Trinity started eating, I was so gung-ho about making all her baby food. I had my Vita-Mix out and was shopping all organic, making her lots of sweet potatoes, butternut squash, pears, peaches, etc. etc. It was awesome for the first few months but, quite frankly, it just wasn’t fitting our lifestyle.

I’m a momma “on the go”. I like to get out and do things with my daughter. We usually head out everyday to a play

date, the park, the play area at the mall, Storytime at the library, the zoo, etc. etc. And my daughter loves…make that LOVES to eat. Seriously…I still can’t figure out where all the food goes. I’m still nursing her and she eats 6 – 8 times a day on top of that. I’m amazed that she’s in the 10th percentile for body weight. My pediatrician said she is a “calorie burning machine!”.

He’s got that right. She definitely inherited John’s metabolism (Thank Goodness!). So, for a mommy on the go, bringing along my home made baby food wasn’t really working. I was super concerned about it rotting or going bad and it would sometimes get warm or start to separate in the little Tupperware containers.

That’s when I turned to packaged organic food. Whoever invested those little food pouches should win a Nobel Peace Prize (just kidding)! Seriously though, I’m super grateful. Trinity loves the Ella’s Organics pouches (of course…they are the most expensive). I’ve tried the Plum Organics, Happy Tots and Earth’s Best but she prefers the Ella’s. I’ll admit they are very tasty and the texture is thicker.

She’s now able to hold the pouches herself and pretty much eats from them without spilling. She won’t let me hold them anymore and doesn’t like it when I feed her with a spoon. Yep! Overnight we went from baby Trinity to Toddler, “I know what I want” Trinity.

I carry 5 or 6 of those pouches with me as well as some Organic Mum Mums, Organic Happy Bellies Teddy Puffs and some Earth’s Best Sesame Street Organic Crackers and we’re good to go. The Ella’s food comes in quite a few varieties and she loves them all. We love them so much that when Babies-R-Us put them on sale this week for 10 for $10.00 (they’re usually $1.79 – $1.89), I bought 80 of them :)

I still make quite a bit of Trinity’s food. Now one of her favorites is my husband’s Italian homemade meatballs…yummy! The Organic food pouches just make being a “go-go-go” mommy a lot easier and far more enjoyable. I never run out of food and always have something for her when she’s wanting to eat.

Give them a try…you’ll love them!
